Environmental Stabilisation and Flood Resilience in Cautley
Thomas Armstrong (Construction) Ltd undertook critical environmental and infrastructure works at Cautley, Sedbergh for Cumbria County Council. The 30-week project involved constructing flood protection measures in a steep, environmentally sensitive area bordering a river and designated SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest).
The team secured all required Flood Defence Consents and led consultation with the Environment Agency and National Park Authority. Key works included drilling rock anchors into the bedrock, pollution control measures, and building a temporary access road on challenging terrain. A geologist was engaged to oversee excavation through the site’s unique geology.
To maintain the natural appearance, all retaining elements were faced with stone to match the surrounding area.
