Vehicle Lane Construction and Footpath Diversion in Barrow

Thomas Armstrong (Construction) Ltd carried out highway widening and lane construction works on the A590 North Road in Barrow-in-Furness for Cumbria County Council.

The project involved converting an existing footpath into a new vehicle lane, installing new road lighting and signage, updating pedestrian crossing points, and managing a heavily congested utility corridor. The team maintained uninterrupted traffic flow on this busy route while coordinating with Electricity North West (ENW), who required a mid-project window to install a major cable into the adjacent BAE Systems site.

Night-time working was used to minimise traffic disruption, and open communication with BAE Systems ensured continuity of heavy vehicle access throughout the works.
