What We Delivered at Workington Central Way Underpass
Thomas Armstrong (Construction) Ltd was appointed to deliver the construction of a new underpass beneath the A597 Central Way dual carriageway in Workington, Cumbria.
The project involved demolition of existing structures, deep excavation, and the installation of reinforced concrete walls and soffits, forming a fully accessible pedestrian link between the town centre and the surrounding area.
Extensive temporary works and traffic management measures were implemented throughout the project to ensure public safety and minimise disruption. The scheme also included new surface finishes, lighting, fencing, and landscaping.
Works Included:
- Demolition of existing structures and services
- Excavation and earthworks
- Construction of reinforced concrete retaining walls and soffit slab
- Installation of waterproofing and drainage systems
- Surfacing, kerbs, footpaths and fencing
- External works including lighting and landscaping
