Delivering a New, Locally Crafted Entrance at Tebay Services

Thomas Armstrong (Construction) Ltd was appointed to construct a new entrance foyer at Tebay Southbound Services, enhancing the visitor experience while maintaining the site’s unique character.

The project involved the demolition of the existing foyer and the construction of a new glazed entrance with a Douglas Fir kingpost truss and purlins, a slate roof canopy, and locally crafted stone pillars using salvaged stone. The roof was slated with reclaimed Welsh blue slate, and underdrawn boarding and facias were sourced and cut within 10 miles of the site.

Working within a busy live service environment, the team implemented safe walkways, signage, and site boundaries to ensure customer access was unaffected throughout. The project also showcased sustainability by reusing all excavated materials on-site, eliminating landfill waste, and maximising the use of local and salvaged materials.
