Viking Way, Gosforth To Seascale

Cycleway Construction on Busy Access Route Near Sellafield
Thomas Armstrong (Construction) Ltd was appointed by Cumbria County Council to deliver the Viking Way — a 3km cycleway connecting the villages of Gosforth and Seascale in West Cumbria. The scheme was delivered on a heavily trafficked access road used for shift changes into the Sellafield Nuclear Complex.
To manage public safety and keep traffic flowing, deliveries were scheduled outside peak times and temporary traffic signals were installed. Landowners were regularly updated to allow farm operations to continue without disruption. The scheme significantly improved public safety for cyclists and walkers, who previously shared the route with heavy industrial traffic.
