Cycleway, Footway and Street Lighting Scheme on A6 in Kendal

Thomas Armstrong (Construction) Ltd was appointed by North Yorkshire County Council to deliver major improvements to the A6 Shap Road in Kendal. The scheme involved widening of the existing footpath to accommodate a cycleway, installation of a new Toucan crossing, upgraded drainage, and street lighting across a 1km stretch of a busy main route.

Despite significant pedestrian and vehicle traffic volumes, the project was successfully delivered while maintaining two-way traffic flow throughout the majority of the works — preventing gridlock in Kendal town centre. A comprehensive temporary traffic management plan was implemented in advance of works, and liaison with statutory authorities ensured timely procurement of street lighting power supplies and new crossings.
