A Modern, Multi-Use Coastal Facility Delivered in Challenging Conditions
Thomas Armstrong (Construction) Ltd was appointed to design and build a flagship activity centre for coastal visitors. The facility includes 16 en-suite bedrooms, public toilets, changing and drying areas, a mezzanine café and performance space, and a scenic terrace area for marina users.
Works were undertaken over an extended programme due to COVID-19 delays, contaminated ground, and third-party utility diversions. A key cladding subcontractor going into administration midway required fast procurement of an alternative solution and renegotiation of warranties.
Despite these challenges, the scheme was delivered to a high quality, meeting sustainability and airtightness targets, and hosting visits from local schools and scout groups to support community engagement.
